About
The Dcubed Micro Release Nut (uD3RN) is a state-of-the-art Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) based release actuator. Its primary function is to securely lock sensitive equipment during the demanding launch phase of a space mission and then safely release it once on orbit. This device stands out as one of the smallest yet most powerful Hold Down and Release Mechanism (HDRM) solutions available in the market. A significant advantage of the uD3RN is its resettability, both on-ground and potentially in-space, allowing for multiple uses and testing. It is designed for ease of use and is readily available as a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) part. Key features include a TRL of 9, on-ground resettability for 40-100 times, short delivery times (10-12 weeks), fully redundant actuation, smart SMA trigger technology, and ultra-low shock during release. The device can handle an axial release load of 4,000 N and a proof load of 4,500 N pull-out. Its compact body measures 25 x 25 x 25 mm and weighs 38 grams. The body is constructed from hard anodized Aluminum 7075-T7351, while the nut is made from Titanium grade 5. It operates across a wide temperature range from -65°C to +75°C and offers customizable interfaces. The product is ITAR Free.
