About
Dcubed’s Release Nut is a non-explosive hold-down and release mechanism (HDRM) designed to secure satellite appendages, solar arrays, propulsion tanks, and other hardware during the vibration environment of launch, then release them precisely when commanded on orbit.
The Release Nut uses Dcubed’s patented shape-memory alloy (SMA) actuator technology. When triggered by a small electrical pulse, the SMA element contracts, displacing the nut mechanism and releasing the retained bolt. The actuation is gentle (no shock, no debris), repeatable in testing, and requires no pyrotechnic handling procedures.
