About
The PRM 9104A is an ultra-low shock, electrically initiated, single-shot, and factory refurbishable release mechanism. It can carry a high tensile preload, which is applied through a release rod held by two separable spool halves. These halves are secured by a tight winding of restraining wire, which is held in place by redundant electrical fuse wires. Actuation of either circuit allows release, ensuring maximum reliability. When sufficient electrical current is applied, the restraint wire unwinds, allowing the spool halves to separate and release the rod and its preload. Tunable separation springs provide the push-off force for required separation velocity. The PRM 9104A includes a location for either a telemetry separation switch or a 37-pin separation connector, used for verifying spacecraft separation, ground power delivery, or communications. Key features include ultra-low release shock, redundant actuation, compatibility with standard launch vehicle firing circuitry, a launch vehicle to payload connector interface, non-explosive hold down & release, no debris generation, high simultaneity, customizable separation velocity, wide operating temperature range, and qualification to standard launch environments. It also offers factory refurbishment and has over 25 years of flight heritage.
