About
The EBAD TiNi™ Pin Puller is a fast-acting device designed for a variety of Aerospace applications. It achieves pin retraction by combining the recovery characteristics of Shape Memory Alloys with a patented trigger mechanism. The Pin Puller offers a pull force range from 5 to 1000 lbf and is available in five standard COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) sizes. It is flight qualified, having made its outer space debut aboard the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in November 1996, and has since been used on numerous other space applications. As with all EBAD TiNi™ products, these Pinpullers are non-pyrotechnic and field-resettable, with a minimum qualified life of 100 cycles. The mechanism can be reset by simply re-extending the output shaft or Pin, which is accessible from the front or rear of the Pinpuller. A redundant SMA circuit is incorporated, providing complete electrical and mechanical redundancy for the critical trigger element. The Pinpuller performs in a millisecond timeframe by directly passing current through the SMA element, making it ideal for synchronized and simultaneous release of multiple tie-down payloads. Simple Auto Shut-Off Switches are integrated into each Pinpuller to protect the Trigger, making them user-friendly and operable from a wide range of current and voltages.
