About

Viasat’s resilient Ka-band GAT-5518 terminal features an 18 in. (45.7 cm) parabolic antenna capable of operating on full ITU Ka-band spectrum with all polarizations. This mission-ready terminal is part of Viasat’s family of next-generation, full-ITU Ka-band terminals, enabling in-flight, broadband connectivity services for airborne operations globally. It is designed to future-proof aircraft with interoperability across all Viasat Ka-band satellites, including the planned ViaSat-3 global constellation. The system comprises three Line Replaceable Units (LRUs): an 18 in. (45.7 cm) antenna with an integrated RF and ACU, a next-generation modem, and an antenna power supply unit. The antenna can be tail or fuselage mounted and operates over the highest capacity Ka-band satellites. It integrates into existing aircraft cabin networks and is a low SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) solution, ideal for fixed-wing and UAS aircraft, allowing for sending and receiving large amounts of data with a small footprint. The GAT-5518, partnered with Viasat’s global Best Available Network (BAN), provides mission-critical connectivity for global and regional aircraft, enabling real-time mission-critical data. This includes enroute government C3 and VIP transport communications for data, VoIP, VTC, internet access, virtual collaboration, and IPTV, as well as real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) with HD full motion video and multi-sensor/multi-intelligence operations for instant situational awareness and decision making.
