Viasat’s Compaction solution, powered by AtomBeam’s patented data compaction software, uses machine learning to seek patterns in IoT message payloads, compacting the data before transmitting it between devices. This process adds virtually no latency, regardless of the device, protocol, or network, and the data is rebuilt 100% losslessly at its destination. Compaction sends small ‘codewords’ representing larger patterns instead of the original source, adding a critical layer of security without requiring a separate encryption or decryption process. This technology significantly reduces airtime costs, making satellite connectivity more viable and secure for IoT applications, all within a single, ultra-lightweight computing process. It improves affordability and scalability of satellite connectivity, dramatically lowers data transmitted for faster real-time transmission, adds obfuscation to IoT messages for robust security without increasing latency or file size, and can increase battery life of enabled IoT devices by upwards of 25-50%. The solution is agnostic, lossless, works with microseconds latency, and is near-universal, operating on any OS, processor, or protocol.
