About
GDP’s Correlating and Non-Correlating Best Source Selector (BSS) units are designed to acquire and enhance signals for thousands of missions, leveraging spatial diversity to automatically correlate data streams from multiple antennas in time. They utilize bit-by-bit quality information to achieve significant performance gains of over 5dB. These units address the challenge of receiving data from moving sources such as aircraft, missiles, or launch vehicles, which are susceptible to multipath, noise, and fading. By correlating data streams in time, the BSS can use bit-by-bit signal quality information to seamlessly switch between streams without dropping lock in downstream frame synchronizers. This allows for real-time signal enhancement that previously required post-flight processing. Key features include diversity combining/correlating, compatibility with encrypted data, superior fade/multi-path mitigation, processing of IRIG or GDP DQE/DQM inputs, over 5dB performance gain, direct Ethernet TMoIP I/O, and analog or digital I/O. Specific models include the Model 2267C Correlating/Diversity Combining Best Source Selector, which accepts up to 16 input data streams (digital data and clock or optional Ethernet packets) and assigns each to one of up to six Best Source output processing groups. The Model 2266C Multi-Channel PCM Bit Sync/BSS houses up to 8 high-performance channels, each usable as a normal Bit Sync and/or a source for Best Source Selection. The Model 2602P BSS provides real-time automated selection and output switching of best quality stream data from multiple range telemetry link sources, accommodating a wide range of rates and virtually all IRIG format compliant PCM frame definitions. These units have been successfully used for over 12 years.
