About
The Honeywell M50 Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) is an established, economically viable attitude actuation solution for small satellites and spacecraft. Employing decades of CMG design and low-cost commercial reaction wheel manufacturing experience, the M50 delivers 50 ft-lb-sec rotor momentum with 50 ft-lb peak torque on a 1 rad/sec gimbal at just 120 W. Single-gimbal CMGs like the M50 provide over 100x greater vehicle acceleration than a reaction wheel system of the same power, enabling agile slew rates up to 15 degrees per minute.
