The NEA Model 9100 is an electrically initiated, one-shot non-pyrotechnic Hold Down & Release Mechanism (HDRM) designed to carry high tensile preloads until commanded to release, supporting release loads up to 1,360 lbf (6,000 N).

About
The NEA Model 9100 is a non-pyrotechnic Hold Down & Release Mechanism (HDRM) that operates as an electrically initiated, one-shot release mechanism. It is capable of carrying a very high tensile preload, which is applied through a release rod held in place by two separable spool halves. These spool halves are secured by a tight winding of restraining wire, which is itself held by redundant electrical fuse wires. Actuation of either electrical circuit causes the restraint wire to unwind, allowing the spool halves to separate and release the rod and its associated preload. This mechanism is designed for simple and reliable actuation, forming the basis for other EBAD products. It is suitable for applications such as deploying antennas, reflectors, solar arrays, booms, masts, scientific instruments, and for satellite/spacecraft dispensing, as well as launch vehicle and missile stage/fairing separation and missile payload separation. The Model 9100 has over 20 years of flight heritage and a flight pedigree on more than 750 space platforms. It features extremely low release shock, high simultaneity for multiple hold-down points, and a wide operating temperature range. It can also be operated with pyrotechnic initiation circuitry and is made from space-rated materials. Factory refurbishments are available.
