About
OrbShield is described by Orbital Composites as the first single-panel solution for radiation, thermal and micrometeoroid/orbital-debris (MMOD) protection for spacecraft. It consolidates three protective functions that traditionally require separate subsystems into one lightweight structure fabricated with Orbital’s AMCM manufacturing process, requiring no blankets, straps or custom shields to install. OrbShield allows standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics, such as GPUs, FPGAs and memory, to operate from low Earth orbit through cislunar space without radiation-hardened components. It is offered in a standard 1U format with custom sizes available on request, and is targeted at orbital AI/edge-compute datacenters, GEO communications satellites (where shielding up to 50% lighter frees mass for transponders and fuel), and radiation-tolerant solar arrays in GEO and deep space.
