About
HiPASS (High-Power Rigid Array Solution for SmallSats) is Redwire’s tailored rigid solar array system engineered to support ESPA-class electric propulsion missions. The design uses metallic tape-spring hinges to create a robust wing that tolerates system-level tolerance stack-up, and is compatible with Solar Array Drive Assemblies (SADA). Low-cost graphite face-sheet panels are used to minimize manufacturing risk and cost.
A standard 1-kW point-design electrical arrangement uses a 19-series/20-parallel per-wing layout with Spectrolab XTE 76.88 cm-squared solar cells. HiPASS is a mature technology, with 10 flight wings for multiple U.S. Government missions planned for delivery.
Deployed, a HiPASS wing measures 54 x 144 x 8 inches (137 x 365 x 20 cm); stowed, it packages down to 30 x 54 x 7.5 inches (76 x 137 x 19 cm) at 17 kg mass for the 1-kW point design. Typical applications include solar array constellations, SADA-based spacecraft, smallsats, and ESPA-class electric propulsion missions.
