About
The Reaction Wheel RW25 is a recent development from ASTROFEIN, specifically engineered for nano-satellite applications. It incorporates integrated electronics, enabling independent operation through its digital interface, with SPI being the preferred communication protocol (CAN also possible). The device is designed for a nominal rotation speed of 5000 rpm and can provide a nominal torque of 2 mNm, with higher torque possible by design. It operates on a 5V supply voltage and has a low power consumption, ranging from less than 1.5 W for maintaining nominal rotation speed to less than 2.8 W at maximum torque and speed. Mechanically, it is very compact and lightweight, with dimensions of 50mm x 50mm x 25.5mm and a mass of 200g. The RW25 is designed to operate in temperatures from -20 °C to +50 °C and can withstand non-operational temperatures from -40 °C to +65 °C. It has a design lifetime of 2 years in low Earth orbit, with a potential for 5 years, subject to life testing. The design offers flexibility for changes in angular momentum and torque without radical redesigns, though mass and power may be affected.
