About

HOCSAI (Highspeed OptComm Signal Adjustment Interface) is WARPSPACE’s space-qualified multi-protocol optical modem designed to be installed aboard satellites. As the optical communications market matures with multiple competing standards and terminal manufacturers, HOCSAI addresses the critical interoperability challenge: it allows a satellite equipped with one type of optical terminal to communicate seamlessly with satellites or ground stations using a different optical communication standard. This removes a fundamental barrier to broad OISL adoption, where protocol fragmentation would otherwise isolate operators who chose different vendor ecosystems.

The modem uses tight, precisely directed laser beams to transmit data between satellites and to ground stations. Compared to traditional RF communications, optical laser links operate at light wavelengths, providing significantly higher data throughput, reduced susceptibility to interception (due to the narrow beam footprint), and freedom from spectrum licensing requirements. HOCSAI is designed to work across space-to-space and space-to-ground link scenarios, making it suitable for both data relay applications and direct-to-ground downlinks.

HOCSAI is a key hardware component of WARPSPACE’s broader ecosystem alongside the Digital Twin System (DTS) software. In September 2025, WARPSPACE signed an agreement with the University of South Australia and Adelaide-based startup RapidBeam to test and integrate HOCSAI into the Australasian Optical Ground Station Network (AOGSN), a laser communications network spanning Australia and New Zealand. This partnership validates HOCSAI’s multi-standard compliance and positions it as infrastructure for next-generation secure satellite communications including defense command-and-control and deep-space mission links.

WARPSPACE accelerated HOCSAI commercialization following its Series C financing round led by SPARX Space Frontier Fund (announced January 2026), and is working with JAXA under a contracted R&D project to explore open optical communication architectures including cislunar applications.
