About Northrop Grumman Space Systems

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is the space division of Northrop Grumman Corporation, one of America's largest defense and aerospace companies. The division encompasses launch vehicles, satellite manufacturing, space systems, and space logistics capabilities developed through Northrop's acquisition of Orbital ATK in 2018.

Northrop Grumman manufactures the Antares rocket (for NASA Commercial Resupply Services with the Cygnus spacecraft) and the Pegasus XL air-launched orbital rocket. The company developed the OmegA rocket (cancelled in 2020 after SpaceX won the National Security Space Launch contract) and is now partnering with Firefly Aerospace on a next-generation medium-lift vehicle.

The Cygnus spacecraft provides pressurized cargo delivery to the ISS and has completed over 20 successful resupply missions. Northrop Grumman also manufactures the James Webb Space Telescope sunshield, AEHF military communications satellites, the GeoStar communications satellite bus, and advanced payloads for NRO and other classified programs.

Northrop Grumman Space is also developing Mission Extension Vehicles (MEVs) — spacecraft that dock with GEO satellites to extend their operational life, representing a growing space logistics market. The MEV-1 and MEV-2 have successfully docked with and extended the lives of aging Intelsat satellites.
