About

Northrop Grumman’s Common Space Vehicle Mechanisms line includes the CASPR (Customizable Actuator for Space Precision Rotation) family, which uses zero-backlash harmonic drive gears to provide accurate, smooth rotation for antenna and payload articulation across LEO, MEO, HEO and GEO orbits. CASPR 20 (5.5 in. dia x 6 in. length, 516 in-lbs torque @ 28V) is sized to articulate 1-3 meter antennas; CASPR 10 (3.6 in. dia x 4 in. length, 78 in-lbs torque @ 28V) articulates antennas under 1 meter. Both are available in Class A-D configurations with optional position feedback.

The broader mechanisms portfolio, flight-proven over 40+ years with 100% mission success on 50+ missions, also includes Deployment Actuators (TRL 9) for deploying structures or spooling cables, Large Rotary Actuators (TRL 9) for large payload/antenna/boom articulation, Medium Rotary Actuators (TRL 9) with higher-speed dual-actuator configurations, and Biaxial Actuators (TRL 9) providing orthogonal axes of rotation (‘cone’ coverage) for medium-sized antennas.
