PPU-1500 (Power Processing Unit)
The PPU-1500 is a power processing unit for 1.5 kW class electric propulsion systems, designed to convert satellite power and control thruster operations.
Description
The PPU-1500 is a power processing unit (PPU) engineered for electric propulsion systems in the 1.5 kW class. Its primary function is to convert onboard satellite power and precisely control the operation of electric propulsion subsystems, including Hall thrusters like the ST-100 and the Xenon Feed System. A laboratory model of the PPU-1500 has undergone testing with Hall thrusters up to 1.5 kW under laboratory conditions, demonstrating strong performance. An engineering model is currently under development with the goal of validating the system for flight applications. The PPU-1500's architecture is designed with flexibility and future missions in mind, incorporating the capability to transition to radiation-hardened components without requiring a complete redesign. This design approach makes the PPU-1500 suitable for a broad spectrum of missions, ranging from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to more demanding environments such as Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO), and deep space.
