About

The Additive Tank 100ml 1U is a fluid storage device developed by Nammo Space in conjunction with NANOspace AB, Sweden, specifically for CubeSat sized propulsion systems. This 3D printed tank is designed to meet specific porting needs and incorporates an integrated plenum tank, which enables much tighter control of the fuel state at the plenum outlet. The tank’s compact 1U x 1U x 0.2U envelope integrates all ports, allowing for flexible placement within the CubeSat assembly stack. Larger volume variants of the tank can be easily generated. It is a fully closed, “no weld” volume, achieving final cleanliness levels an order of magnitude better than requirements. The flexibility of Additive Manufacturing allows for future integration of components such as thrusters, transducers, valves, and other MEMS components, with the goal of creating a complete propulsion system. This approach improves functionality and reduces part count, leading to significant savings in overall cost and assembly times. Designing for Additive Manufacturing enables the tank to sustain much larger operating pressures due to an internal structure that greatly reduces stresses, optimizing wall and skin thicknesses, and thus production cost and mass. The additive manufacturing process also allows for maximizing the surface area of the filter inlets. A range of tank materials are possible, including Titanium, Inconel, Aluminium, and Stainless Steel.
