Airbus offers four product lines of space-qualified Lithium-Ion batteries (ASTRO-BATT, COSMO-BATT, STELLAR-BATT, LAUNCHER-BATT) designed for diverse space missions, from LEO constellations to GEO satellites and launchers.

About
Airbus has developed its own Lithium-Ion battery products for Space applications since 2016, leveraging over 20 years of expertise in the battery industry. These batteries are equipped with COTS cells, fully qualified by Airbus for Space, offering a competitive price while maintaining high reliability. Their design is modular to cope with specific mission requirements, minimizing non-recurring costs and battery mass. Airbus acts as both design and manufacturing authority, with a dedicated Battery Assembly Line. The product lines address GEO/MEO telecommunication and navigation systems, LEO optical and radar missions, LEO constellations, and launchers.
ASTRO-BATT is for LEO Optical/Radar missions, complying with ECSS standards. It comes in 30V, 50V, and 100V configurations with the same mechanical design, suitable for internal or external installation. It was qualified mid-2024, with first flight unit production ongoing, and selected for ESA’s FORUM satellite (30V configuration, planned delivery Q1 2025, launch 2027).
COSMO-BATT is for Telecom and Navigation satellites (GEO, MEO). It features a modular design with single module energy ranging from 500 to 3000 Wh. Modules are delivered in a battery pack, including interconnection elements, harness, and management/safety equipment. COSMO-BATT-S (500-1000 Wh) is on Galileo satellites; COSMO-BATT-M (1100-2100 Wh) is on OneSat satellites; COSMO-BATT-L (2200-3000 Wh) is on E3000-NEO satellites. Over 300 units manufactured, and more than 100 modules currently in flight.
STELLAR-BATT is for LEO Constellations, comprising two distinct modules (STELLAR-BATT-S and STELLAR-BATT-L) that can be used independently or in series/parallel. It incorporates EEE automotive COTS components and COTS Lithium-ion cells, rigorously qualified for space. STELLAR-BATT-S is a 30V battery offering around 1700 Wh, designed for external mounting with an embedded radiator. STELLAR-BATT-L is a 30V battery offering 900 to 3600 Wh with a modular design, ensuring thermal management via direct contact with the spacecraft panel. Over 800 STELLAR-BATT modules manufactured, selected for OneWeb constellation (over 630 satellites in orbit since Feb 2019, 2000 years cumulated lifetime).
LAUNCHER-BATT is for launchers, offering a balance of mechanical performance, safety, and reliability. It can power launcher units or pyrotechnics. Modules can be standalone or in series/parallel. It uses COTS Lithium-ion cells qualified for launcher applications and embeds fuses for safety. LAUNCHER-BATT-S offers around 260 Wh in a 30V configuration. LAUNCHER-BATT-L offers around 1600 Wh in a 60V configuration. Selected for Ariane 6 (over 150 modules manufactured and tested, first launch July 2024 with over 30 modules). Airbus also offers customer support, battery EGSE, and customisation services.
