About
ODALCOM is a Free-Space C Band laser transceiver specifically designed to provide small satellite platforms with high-performance optical space-to-ground communication links. It offers increased security due to highly spatial directivity, making eavesdropping and jamming difficult. The system features simple and compact radiating elements with low mechanical complexity, and the communications hardware is small and compact. It is capable of very high data rates with higher power efficiency. Key features include mechanisms-free beam steering and forming, a 500 Mbps Tx rate, and a compact design without optomechanical elements. It has a volume of 1U, mass less than 1.5Kg, and power consumption lower than 3W. The optical power can reach up to 1W (100 mW nominal). It provides a rich and seamless logic interface including SPI, Ethernet, and I2C. The system utilizes a Microchip PolarFire FPGA with 109K logic elements, 512 MiB DDR3 RAM, 4GiB eMMC memory, and 8 SERDES Lanes ranging from 250Mbps to 12.5Gbps. It includes power supply protections such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and reverse connection. Standard logic interfaces include three UART, RS-485, I2C, Ethernet, and a USB port, along with six open-drain inputs and six open-drain outputs. The device has a size of 87mm x 87mm x 15mm and a weight of 60 grams.
