About
STARCOM is MBRYONICS’s laser communications system supporting optical inter-satellite links (OISL) and Earth links, engineered for leading SWaP, data rates, antenna gain, and pointing/acquisition/tracking performance. It supports dual polarisation and quantum key distribution (QKD), and is compatible with the SDA Standard version 3.0. STARCOM-Interstellar offers deployable in-plane and out-of-plane hemispherical field-of-regard configurations. The system comprises an optical terminal (Laser Communication Terminal) and a separate Antenna Control Unit, with fibre coupling enabling multiplexed, higher-order data rates. The system has been selected by DARPA, ESA, SpeQtral, Airbus Defence and Space, and the European Defence Agency, with link distances over 80,000 km and data rates up to 400 Gbps targeted by 2027.
