About
StarCom is an advanced optical communication system developed by MBRYONICS, designed for both Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISL) and Earth Links. It features full duplex fiber coupling, enabling multiplexed and higher-order data rates. The system is recognized for its industry-leading performance in terms of Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP), data rates, antenna gain, and Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking (PAT) capabilities, as well as ease of satellite integration. StarCom supports dual polarization and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). The system is composed of two main payloads: an optical terminal (Laser Communication Terminal – LCT) and a separate Antenna Control Unit (ACU). For full functionality, it typically requires an optical modem (e.g., MBRYONICS StarCom-100G modem) and an optical amplifier. Key capabilities include efficient satellite bus jitter management, an advanced PAT system, and suitability for all orbits, link distances, and data rates. It boasts a 50% larger usable aperture than competitors, low power requirements with high data rates, and supports link distances exceeding 80,000 km. Flexible data rates are available, with up to 400Gbps projected by 2027. StarCom ensures seamless integration and scalability, being compatible with EST, SDA, ESTOL, and CCSDS standards. It is available for series production and has been selected by organizations such as DARPA, ESA, SpeQtral, Airbus Defence and Space, and the European Defence Agency for various missions and applications. The STARCOM-Interstellar configuration specifically offers deployable in-plane and out-of-plane hemispherical field of regard inter-satellite links.
