The TiNi Flat Pack FP50 is a miniature hold-down release mechanism (HDRM) designed for various low-load applications such as solar arrays, antenna reflectors, instruments, doors, sensors, and booms. It operates using a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wire that, when heated, reverts to its original shape, causing actuation. Key features include field resettability, an auto shut-off switch, low height (<.25"), no debris generation, qualification to standard launch environments, range safety friendliness, and the use of space-rated materials. The device is constructed with an SMA wire threaded through a bell crank, which retains a trigger that keeps drive springs on a slider compressed. A smaller reset spring assists in the reset process. It is non-pyrotechnic and can be manually reset, with a minimum life of 50 cycles. It has an extensive operational temperature range.
