About

The EWC28 is an X-Band Transmitter designed for space missions, with a heritage on the Proba-V mission and selected for a lunar mission (EWC28-DS variant). It operates in the 8025–8400MHz frequency range and supports data rates up to 100Mbps. The RF output power is programmable from 30 to 39dBm, with an optional +40dBm, in 1dB steps. The equipment is designed for a 5-year lifetime in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). It includes a DC-DC converter with galvanic isolation. The power supply architecture is specifically designed to protect the transmitter against latch-up effects caused by heavy ions in space, incorporating an electronic fuse after the main DCDC converter and current limitations for individual functions. A smart strategy is implemented for controlling the internal power amplifier’s supplies to optimize efficiency across different RF power levels. The EWC28 XBT can be adapted for Deep Space missions, particularly in terms of frequency band and bitrate, with the EWC28-DS variant already commissioned for a lunar mission.
