About
The EBAD NEA 1120-05 Pin Puller is a non-pyrotechnic Hold Down & Release Mechanism (HDRM) designed for spacecraft applications. It utilizes EBAD’s patented split spool technology, which is also found in their other HDRMs. The device operates with a spring-loaded plunger restrained by a split-spool and fuse wire. The spool halves are held together by a winding of restraining wire, which terminates in a fuse wire connected to electrical terminals. When sufficient electrical current is passed through the fuse wire, it heats up and breaks under tension, allowing the restraining wire to unwind, separating the spool halves, and releasing the preloaded plunger. This actuation method is simple, reliable, and forms the basis for other EBAD products like Battery Cell Bypass Switches and Non-Pyrotechnic Valves. Key features include extremely low release shock, an extended operating temperature range, compatibility with pyrotechnic initiation circuitry, range safety friendliness, space-rated materials, and field refurbishability with spare initiators and a reset tool. Typical applications include antennas, scientific instruments, solar arrays, reflectors, satellite and spacecraft payloads, booms and masts, stage separation, and caging mechanisms. The pin puller is fully vented and vacuum compatible.
