The Gals satellite is a communications and broadcasting spacecraft designed and manufactured by ISS Reshetnev. It operates in a Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) at an altitude of 36,000 km. The satellite has an active attitude determination and control system (ADCS) and a power system (EPS) providing 2400 W. With a mass of 2500 kg, Gals is designed for a lifetime of 5 years. Its launch vehicle was the Proton-K carrier rocket with a DM upper stage, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The first Gals satellite was launched on January 20, 1994.
