SelfieCam is a compact, flight-proven spacecraft deployment monitoring camera with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 9. It is specifically designed to support critical space missions by providing deployment monitoring, enhancing space situational awareness, and facilitating In-Space Manufacturing (ISM) activities. The camera features non-volatile memory, allowing it to capture and save images reliably. Its design prioritizes ease of integration and operation, making it a straightforward addition to various spacecraft platforms. SelfieCam can capture and save JPEG compressed image frames at up to 12 frames per second, which is resolution-dependent, enabling effective monitoring of spacecraft deployments. The on-board JPEG encoding ensures small image sizes, supporting easy data downlink even with weaker communication links. The camera can be directly mounted on the spacecraft chassis. It utilizes a CMOS RGB Rolling shutter image sensor and offers multiple pixel resolutions including 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, and 640 x 480. It has a pixel size of 2.2 µm, operates in the VIS spectral range, and provides a 110° field of view with a 1mm focal length. The optical assembly is integrated with the sensor. Communication and control are handled via a UART interface with ASCII commands, and image/bulk data also uses UART. It operates on a 5 V DC input voltage and consumes 750 mW of power. The camera can store up to 500 images in its on-board flash memory. It is designed to operate in a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C and can withstand a total ionizing dose of up to 30 kRad.
