The Meridian satellite is a communications and broadcasting spacecraft developed by ISS Reshetnev. It is designed to operate in a highly elliptical orbit, with an orbit height ranging from 1000 x 40000 km. The satellite has an active attitude determination and control system (ADCS) and an electrical power system (EPS) capable of generating 3200 W. With a mass of 2100 kg, Meridian is built for a lifetime of 7 years. The satellite is launched using a Soyuz-2 carrier rocket and a Fregat upper stage from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. The first Meridian satellite was launched on December 24, 2006.
