About

Aerospace Fabrication and Materials (AFM) provides a wide range of Multilayer Insulation (MLI) blankets to the Aerospace community, utilizing a combination of thin films, foils, and fabrics. These blankets are crucial for passive thermal control in spacecraft, launch vehicles, and cryogenic applications where extreme temperatures are present. AFM’s engineers and technicians have extensive experience in building and custom fitting MLI for various customers, handling both build-to-print and design-to-fit projects. Their facility is uniquely designed with a flexible manufacturing system to produce MLI blankets in custom sizes and shapes. They can accommodate specifications provided with drawings, templates, and/or CAD files, and are skilled at manufacturing either sewn blankets with fabric surfaces or taped blankets with plastic layers. These blankets have been used on countless spacecraft and satellites, from Low Earth Orbit to Geostationary Orbit and beyond, including the International Space Station.
