The StarLight modem is part of MBryonics’ STARCOM product line, featuring a fiber-coupled optical head that operates within the 1550nm (ITU C-band) range. It supports diverse protocols and speeds, leveraging STARCOM’s capabilities in polarization modulation, On-Off Keying (OOK), and coherent modulation schemes. The modem is compatible with SDA 3.1 and IEEE803.2 Ethernet standards and includes FEC, enabling seamless integration for LEO, MEO, and GEO Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISL) as well as Space to Ground links. Customised solutions are available to meet specific client requirements. The integrated Modem and ACU design is remarkably lightweight, weighing less than 3.5kg. For optimal performance, the StarBurst LNA and Booster Optical Amplifiers are used in conjunction with the modem to amplify optical signals. MBryonics supplies a combined LNA and Booster payload, which can be integrated with the STARCOM Antenna Control Unit (ACU). One ACU can control up to four STARCOM units, and ACUs can be split for greater flexibility. The total mass of the Modem + ACU + Booster + LNA configuration is less than 4kg, and the total mass of the Optical Communication Terminal (OCT) with one STARCOM Optical Head is less than 14kg. This product is suitable for point-to-point lasercom solutions across ground, air, and space applications.
