About
NuSCIS (New Space Camera Imaging System) is a compact imaging payload designed for CubeSats and SmallSats operating in low-Earth orbit environments. Its modular architecture and multi-sensor flexibility enable customisation for mission-specific requirements, supporting CMOS, CCD, and EMCCD sensors with integrated thermal control for enhanced low-light performance. The PC104 1/4U format Imager Controller Board (ICB) can operate up to two CMOS sensors simultaneously.
The platform combines onboard processing with real-time decision-making while maintaining minimal mass, power, and volume footprints, making it suitable for rapid deployment on cost-effective space imaging missions. Compatible sensors include Teledyne e2v Ruby, Sapphire, CIS120, CMOSIS CMV2000 and CMV4000, and Fairchild Imaging HWK4123.
Primary interfaces are CAN-Bus (command) and SpaceWire (data), with USB available for ground testing. The system is designed for a 3-year LEO operational lifetime and includes onboard data compression. Its small form factor and low peak power of 4 W make it well-suited to resource-constrained nanosatellite missions.
