About

The Xiphos Q8 Low SWaP Computer-on-Module is the latest generation of spaceflight-ready miniature processing boards, designed explicitly for space applications using COTS components. It builds upon the extensive heritage of the flight-proven Q-card family, maintaining an efficient design while setting new records in performance. The Q8 processor card features a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ Multi-Processor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) Processing FPGA, which includes a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 Application Processing Unit, a dual-core ARM Cortex-R5 Real-Time Processing Unit, and an ARM Mali-400 GPU, all supported by massive programmable logic resources. Memory includes 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM (with ECC), 2 x 256 MB QSPI Flash (NOR), and 2 x 128 GB eMMC. It operates with a typical power consumption of 5W at 9V to 15V. Interfaces include Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 & 3.1, serial, and multiple high-speed I/O via a mezzanine connector, such as GPIO, LVDS, and GTR multi-Gbps transceivers for SATA or PCI Express (PCIe Gen 2). The Q8 also comes with a Linux SDK and features radiation effects mitigation, including a 30krad TID lifetime. It is ideal for space applications requiring higher processing power and flexibility, such as radar, satellite communications, high-resolution image processing, and scientific research. Xiphos also offers custom solutions, including application-specific development and software hybridization, which fuses custom software with FPGA logic for efficient, high-performance, and scalable applications, particularly in image processing, signal processing, and data acquisition. The board has dual FPGA (processor and supervisor) and ECC for its memory banks, along with other radiation effects mitigation features. Xiphos provides memory scrubbing software and conducts radiation qualification tests (board-level proton and TID gamma ray testing) and environmental qualification (TVAC, vibration, shock testing).
