The Xiphos Q8 is a low SWaP computer-on-module built on the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC, combining quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 application processors, dual-core ARM Cortex-R5 real-time processors, an ARM Mali-400 GPU, and extensive programmable FPGA logic on a single chip.
The Q8 targets space applications requiring higher processing capability than previous generations, with common deployment in radar systems, satellite communications infrastructure, high-resolution imagery analysis, and scientific research initiatives. Its dual-FPGA design — pairing the primary MPSoC with a supervisory FPGA — combined with ECC-protected memory banks and additional radiation mitigation features ensures reliable operation in the space radiation environment.
Xiphos provides a Linux SDK and Vivado skeleton project with over 90% of FPGA resources available for custom application logic. The Q8 has accumulated significant flight heritage and is the foundation for multiple higher-level products in the Xiphos portfolio, including the Q8 OBC, Q8 Camera Board, and Q8 SDR Dock.
